Jesus calls Pastor Fedor Khomyak home

     Mrs. Nadia Bychkowski (Надія Бичковська), a longtime member of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Toronto, Canada, died on Friday, March 16, 2018. She was 95 years old.

     Sister Bychkowski had been living in a long-term care facility for about three years. She was a widow since her husband died in 1998.

     Visitation will be held Thursday, March 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at RS Kane Funeral Home in Toronto. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 23 at 11 a.m.

     Condolences are extended to her three children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

     Erika Batycki, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was called home by the Lord on Monday, September 10, 2018, at the age of 62 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
     She was a former member of the First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church of Philadelphia and a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Philadelphia.
     Among her many good traits, Erika was known for her servant spirit, her gentle manner, her helpful attitude and her hospitality.
     She was born in Brazil, came to the United States in 1980 and was married to Nelson for 38 years.
     Condolences are sent to her husband, children and other relatives. A service was held at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia, 13500 Philmont Ave.

Pearl Barchuk enters gloryland at age 100

     Alex Panczenko (Панченко), a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed on to his eternal home on November 9, 2018 at the age of 98.
     He died in his native village of Harazdzha (Гаразджа, Волинь), Ukraine, where he had been living for about the last three years. The funeral was held in Ukraine the next day. He was born March 1, 1920.
     When he resided in Wisconsin, Mr. Panczenko worked for 20 years for Bucyrus-Erie Company. In church, he served as a Sunday School teacher.

     Brother Panczenko used to visit the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago on numerous occasions, especially to attend conferences of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Convention.
     Condolences are expressed to his children, Hychu, Inna, Maria, Irene and Dennis; to his 32 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and to other relatives.

    John Popowicz (Іван Попович), a founding member of The Ukrainian Gospel Singers, was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 25, 2018 in Florida.

     He had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer about two years ago.

     The Ukrainian Gospel Singers traveled the world to sing at churches and conferences, including in Ukraine. The group's membership changed over the years, but always included John and his wife of 49 years, Lydia Rosita Popowicz.

     The Ukrainian Gospel Singers visited the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago on several occasions, including in 1984,1992, 2005 and 2014. 

Janiuk

     Dmytro “Mieczyslaw” Janiuk (Дмитро Янюк), a member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago (Berwyn), died today (Sunday, November 18, 2018) at the Alden-Long Grove Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Long Grove, Illinois.

     Brother Janiuk was 89 years old.  He was born May 6, 1929 in a village near Cholm, Poland in Ukrainian ethnic territory. He married in 1959 in Mlyniv, Ukraine, where his son was born in 1960.  The family moved to Poland at the end of 1972.
     Brother Janiuk moved to Illinois from Poland in 2000 to join his wife, Nadia. She died in 2006. Mrs. Janiuk was the sister of Rev. Olexa R. Harbuziuk.
     Brother Janiuk had been living in the Long Grove facility for the past eight years.

     A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 20, at 11 a.m. at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home in Wheaton, Illinois.
     Condolences are expressed to his son, Leonid; his two grandsons, Jacob and Simon; and other relatives.

 

Zabramski

Mary Zabramski goes to her eternal home


     Mary Zabramski, a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died Wednesdsy, March 7, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born on March 26, 1924 in Ukraine.
     After the Milwaukee church disbanded, Sister Zabramski occasionally visited the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago.
     Her husband, Ludwik, died in 1981. Her daughter Violet Dankow died in March 2016.
     Visitation will be held Thursday, March 15 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Church and Chapel Funeral Home in Cudahy, Wisconsin. A service will be held at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
     Condolences are extended to her daughter Vera Zabramski, son-in-law Matt Dankow, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Shep

     Roman Pokidyuk, a member of the Ukrainian House of Gospel in Richland, New Jersey,  died on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the age of 96. He died at home in Vineland, New Jersey, where he had been under the care of family and hospice.

     Brother Pokidyuk was born in Ukraine. He immigrated to the United States in 1992.

     Visitation was held Sunday evening, July 8, at the church. The funeral was held Monday, July 9 at Pancoast Funeral Home, followed by burial in Siloam Cemetery.

     Condolences are extended to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Oleksandr Borodavka goes to heaven at age 79


     Oleksandr V. Borodavka, a member of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Vineland, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the age of 79.
     Brother Borodavka was born and raised in Sumy, Ukraine.
     A service was held Wednesday evening at the church. The funeral and burial were held Thursday.
     Condolences are extended to his wife, children, grandchildren and other relatives.

Alexander Filuk, 92, passes away


     Alexander Filuk, who used to sing in the choir of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Swan River, Manitoba, Canada, passed away on March 23. He was 92. He had suffered from Parkinson’s disease for the past three years.
     He was born in Ukraine and arrived in Canada with his parents and three brothers in 1928. In 1973, Alex moved his family to Abbotsford, British Columbia.
         Brother Alex owned Filuk Construction in Swan River. He served in the Department of Transportation in the Manitoba government. After moving to Abbotsford, he was involved in land and warehouse development.

     Condolences are extended to his wife, daughters and other relatives
     A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, April 6, at Seven Oaks Alliance Church in  Abbotsford.

Victor Chorney passes into arms of Jesus

    

     Victor Chorney (Віктор Чорнiй), a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago (Berwyn), died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 of a heart attack. He was 52 years old.

     Brother Chorney sang for a brief time in the choir in Berwyn. He worked as a truck driver. He lived in North Carolina.

     Services were held at Slavic Pentecostal Church "Emanuel" in Charlotte, North Carolina, followed by burial on January 23.

    Condolences are extended to his family and relatives.


John Lukijanec departs for heaven at age 94


     John (Ivan) Lukijanec, a former member of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Toronto, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on January 1, 2018. He was 94.
     Brother Lukijanec was born in Ukraine, left for Europe during World War 2 and eventually immigrated to Canada. His first wife died in 1976, and his second wife died in 2006. Condolences are extended to his family and relatives.
     Visitation and a service were held January 8, 2018 at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home in Markham, Ontario. Interment was in Park Lawn Cemetery in Etobicoke.

     Among their many.appearances, they performed at the 3rd World Congress of Ukrainian Baptist Youth in Ashford, Connecticut in 1979; and at the Ukrainian Bible Centre near Peterborough, Ontario, Canada in 1984.
     A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, September 9 at 4 p.m. at the Ukrainian Baptist Church, 3950 Wall Lane, North Port, FL 34287.
     Condolences are sent to his wife, children and other relatives.

     Iwan Kowalsetskyj (Іван Ковальзецький), a well-known choir conductor in Brazil and the United States, died today (Wednesday, January 24, 2018) at the age of 92 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

    Brother Kowalsetskyj directed a men's choir at a Baptist world congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1960. The men wore embroidered shirts and carried a Ukrainian flag.

    He emigrated from Brazil to America in 1986 and led the choir at the First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Philadelphia for 15 years.

    He also spent about 25 years singing in a Ukrainian community choir called Prometheus.

    Brother Kowalsetskyj was the guest conductor at the Ukrainian Baptist Youth Congress in 1976 in Winnipeg, Canada.

     He was born in Ukraine on Februry 8, 1925. He attended a music school in Germany and in 1949 immigrated to Sao Paulo, Brazil with his parents and siblings.

     Condolences are extended to his children, grandchildren and other relatives. His wife died in 2016.

     Mrs. Nadia Shulgach, a member of the First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Levittown, Pennsylvania, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the age of 87.
     She was a longtime member of the church, starting when it was situated in Trenton before moving to Levittown. In her younger years, Sister Shulgach used to love to sing solos in church.
     Condolences are expressed for her husband, John; a son, Nicholas; a daughter, Lili; eight grandchildren and other relatives.
     A funeral service was held at the church on Thursday, October 25, followed by burial.

     Mrs. Pearl Barchuk (Пелагія Барчук), a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago, passed into the presence of Jesus today (Sunday, February 4, 2018) at the age of 100. She had celebrated her birthday on January 25.

     For many years, Sister Barchuk was a member of the Chicago church, where she sang in the choir. She also was active in the women's group. She was elected several times to the national committee of the women's association in the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Convention of the USA.

    When she and her husband moved to Cleveland later in life, they were members of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Cleveland. Her husband, Rev. John Barchuk, died in 1986.

    Rev. and Mrs. Barchuk were married on April 21, 1935 in Warsaw, Poland. They moved to Rivne, Ukraine in 1936 as missionaries. They immigrated to America from Germany several years after World War II ended.

     Sister Barchuk began residing at the Evangelical Baptist Camp in Ashford, Connecticut in September 2016.

     A service celebrating the life of Sister Barchuk will be held Friday, February 16 at 7 p.m. at the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church, 1462 N. Brewster Road, Vineland, New Jersey. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 17, at 10 a.m. at Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 Main Street, Vineland, followed by burial in Siloam Cemetery in Vineland next to her husband's grave.

     Condolences are extended to her five children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     Nina Guriak, a longtime member of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Crum Lynne, Pennsylvania and then the Ukrainian Baptist Church in North Port, Florida, died Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the age of 99.

     She was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1949. Sister Guriak had been a member of the Crum Lynne church until moving to North Port in 1984.
     Sister Guriak sang in the choir at the Crum Lynne church and was active in the local women’s group. She also was active in the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Convention’s women’s association, serving as a member of the executive committee in 1961-62 and as vice president in 1973-74.  
     Visitation will be held Friday, March 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Gulf Pines Memorial Park, 2401 Englewood Road, Englewood, Florida, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
     Condolences are extended to her daughter, Mary, and to other relatives. Sister Guriak’s husband, Alex, died in 2004. Her son, Alex Jr., died in 2015.

Anna Kopot ends her earthly journey at age 95


     Anna Kopot (Анна Копоть), a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago, died Thursday, March 8, 2018. She was 95 years old.
     Sister Kopot came to Chicago from Lviv, Ukraine, in the autumn of 1987 with her husband and son. The family came at the very beginning of the fourth wave of immigration from Ukraine to America. Her husband, Ivan, died in 2004.

     The funeral was held Monday from Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary in Elmhurst to Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove.
     Condolences are sent to her son, Michael; grandchildren and other relatives.

Alex Panczenko, 98, enters his eternal home

     Eugenia Shep, a member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in North Port, Florida, passed into eternity today (Thursday, September 27, 2018).
     A resident of Venice, Florida, she was 92 years old.
     Sister Shep also was a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago.
     Condolences are sent to her children, grandchildren and other relatives.

     Fedor Khomyak (Федір Хом’як), a member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago (Berwyn), passed on to heaven today (Thursday, November 29, 2018). Born in Ukraine, he was 87 years old.
     Brother Khomyak served as a pastor in Ukraine before moving to the United States in the 1990s. His wife died in 2011.
     Condolences are extended to his six children, 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and other relatives.
     Visitation will be held Monday, December 3, at 10 a.m. at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL, followed by a service at 11 a.m.  Interment will be in River Hills Memorial Park.
