Yelena Shevchuk (Олена Шевчук), a member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago, ended her earthly life on Monday (November 4, 2019) at the age of 85.
Sister Shevchuk was born in Ukraine on August 28, 1934 and immigrated to Chicago in the 1990s. She had been ill for more than a year.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 9, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home in Naperville. Burial was in Naperville Cemetery.
Condolences are sent to her son, Vasily, and other relatives. Her husband died in 2007.
Wiera (Vera) Rewko (Віра Ревко), a longtime member of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Toronto, passed into eternity on May 27, 2019. She was 95 years old.
Sister Rewko, who was born in Ukraine in 1923, immigrated to Canada after World War II.
She was a member of the Toronto church for more than 30 years until relocating to a seniors complex in Edmonton in 1988.
Condolences are expressed to her three children and other relatives. Rev. Daniel Zyla officiated at the funeral on June 7.
Maria Yuchimiuk (Марія Юхим'юк), a longtime member of the First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died January 10, 2019 at the age of 82.
Condolences are sent to her two sons, John and David, and their wives; four grandchildren and other relatives. Sister Yuchimiuk's husband, Pedro, died in 1999.
A celebration of Sister Yuchimiuk's life will be held Thursday, January 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by her funeral service. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Liza Kalapuziak (Ліза Калапузяк), a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago, died today (Sunday, December 8, 2019) at the age of 92. She would have been 93 in January.
Born in Ukraine, she became a forced laborer during World War II in Germany, where she met and married Ivan Kalapuziak. They were married for 63 years until he died on December 26, 2008. She was baptized in Germany.
From Germany, Mrs. Kalapuziak and her family emigrated to Brazil in 1949. They were members of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Sao Paulo where Rev. Mykola Bezditko was pastor.
The family immigrated to the United States in 1960 when the Hrycenko family sponsored them. They became members of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Chicago.
Mrs. Kalapuziak worked for many years in janitorial services at the Tribune Tower in downtown Chicago.
Condolences are expressed to her four children, Wally, Paul, Luba Harbuziuk (Alex) and Peter (Jo), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
A family service and burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois.

Vera Korolchuk (Віра Корольчук), a member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago, has died after an illness.
Sister Korolchuk was 94 years old. Her husband preceded her in death in 2011.
The funeral was held Monday, December 15, 2019 at Brust Funeral Home in Carol Stream.
Condolences are sent to her son and daughter-in-law, grandson, sister and other relatives.
Mikhail Povkh (Михайло Повх), a member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago (Berwyn), finished his earthly journey on Saturday, June 1, 2019.
Brother Povkh suffered a stroke on May 28, just two days after he attended the Sunday church service. He was 82 years old. He joined the church after emigrating from Ukraine in 2003.
Condolences are sent to his wife, Nadezhda, whom he married in 1961; children Raisa (Igor) Kopytko, Vasily (Natalia) Povh, Lyubov (widow of Peter) Shust, Nina (Vasily) Dolya, and Lyudmila (Vladimir) Kreshchuk; brother Valentyn (Lyubov) Povh; and 14 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, from 9 to 10 a.m., with a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton, IL. Interment will be in Wheaton Cemetery, 1209 Warrenville Rd., Wheaton.
Stanley Ciona, a former member of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church of Toronto, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Sunday August 4, 2019. He was 86 years old.
Brother Ciona sang in the men’s choir and served as an usher at the Toronto church.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, Ontario. A celebration of life will be held at West Highland Baptist Church, 1605 Garth St., Hamilton, on Saturday, August 10, at 1 p.m.
Condolences are sent to his wife of 53 years, Kathy; their children and grandchildren, and his siblings.
Andrey Ilyuk, who was a pastor of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Manchester New Hampshire, died July 10, 2019 at Catholic Medical Center, after a prolonged illness. He was 83 years old.
Brother Ilyuk emigrated from Ukraine to the United States in 1998. His wife died in 2016. They had been married 55 years.
Condolences are expressed to his four sons, a daughter, 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five siblings.
Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.

Lilia Bystritskaya (Ліля Бистрицькая), a member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church of Chicago (Berwyn), went to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Sister Bystritskaya died Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the age of 60. She joined the church in the early 1990s after arriving from Ukraine with her husband, Anatoliy Bystritskiy, and their family.
Sister Bystritskaya sang in the alto section of the church choir for many years. She sang a solo during a funeral service for Rev. Olexa Harbuziuk in 1997.
Condolences are sent to her husband, Anatoliy; three children, Julia, Vitaliy and Alina; five grandchildren; her brother, Pavlo Sobchenko; and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 20 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 W. Cermak Road, Forest Park, IL 60130, followed by a funeral service. A committal service will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, IL.
Nick Hreczany (Микола Гречаний), a former member of the Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church in Crum Lynne, Pennsylvania, went to be with his Savior on March 14, 2019.
He was 76 years old. He was a resident of Chicago, Illinois, at the time of his death.
A graveside funeral was held March 19 at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois.

Mrs. Ann Dumych (Анна Думич), a former member of the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Niagara Falls, Canada, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 10, 2019.
She died at age 95 after a bout with Alzheimer’s disease that lasted more than three years. She was born in Poland on February 10, 1924.
Sister Dumych was very active in her church, where her husband served as pastor for about 44 years. He died in 1992.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, followed by a service. The interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Vira Nahorna, 79, a member of First Slavic Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, died Monday, October 14, 2019, after she was struck by a car in a parking lot as she was putting groceries in her car.
Police said a 54-year-old woman also tried to run over four other people. Police said she was being charged with one count of first degree murder, two counts of attempted first degree murder, and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Sister Nahorna was born December 10, 1939 in Ombish, Ukraine.
Funeral services were held Thursday evening and Friday morning at the church, with burial in the Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, NC.
